Hector May Virella
Raised in Barceloneta, Puerto Rico, Dr. Hector’s journey into healthcare began through the world of sports. As a multi-sport athlete competing in baseball, basketball, and track & field, he experienced firsthand both the power of the human body, and the limitations that pain, injury, and dysfunction can create. That early exposure sparked a lifelong curiosity: how can we move better, perform better, and live without unnecessary limitations?
He pursued this passion at Universidad del Sagrado Corazón in San Juan, Puerto Rico, earning a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science & Health Promotion, along with a minor in Massage Therapy. During this time, he developed a strong foundation in human movement, recovery, and hands-on care. After two years working as a personal trainer, helping individuals transform their bodies and habits, Dr. Hector felt called to something deeper, addressing not just symptoms, but the root of dysfunction.
That calling led him to the LIFE Leaderhsip weekend which led him to discover Chiropractic, or as they would say within the profession Chiropractic discovering him.
While completing his Doctor of Chiropractic degree and a Master’s in Sport Health Science with a specialization in Sports Chiropractic Care at LIFE University, Dr. Hector immersed himself in mastering multiple chiropractic and soft tissue techniques. His education extended beyond the classroom through leading a well-known chiropractic club called, Quirobori and Filosofia Hispana, and into mission trips to Haiti/Dominican Republic, Colombia, and Mexico, where he provided care to underserved communities, experiences that reinforced his belief that healthcare is not just a service, but a responsibility.
With a deep understanding of biomechanics, movement patterns, and nervous system function, Dr. Hector specializes in working with families, athletes and active individuals who want more than just pain relief, they want to optimize how they move and perform. His approach is rooted in the philosophy that “movement is medicine, and movement is life.”
He is certified in Graston Technique (IASTM), allowing him to effectively address soft tissue restrictions, accelerate recovery, and support long-term rehabilitation. By integrating chiropractic adjustments, movement-based rehab, and soft tissue work, he helps patients restore function, improve resilience, and unlock higher levels of performance.
Currently serving at LIFE University Athletic Care since August 2024, Dr. Hector continues to work closely with athletes, further refining his ability to bridge the gap between rehabilitation and performance.
At the core of his care is purpose and compassion. Dr. Hector believes that true health comes from reconnecting with your body, understanding how it moves, and taking ownership of your well-being. Guidance and the path to self-discovery is what motivates him the most. His mission is to guide to be light in the midst of darkness and to get each person not only out of pain, but toward becoming the strongest, most capable version of themselves.
Outside the office, you’ll find him lifting, running, spending time with family and friends, enjoying life through activities like movies, bowling, and dancing. Always staying connected to the same movement-driven lifestyle he promotes to his patients.
